BUG 2006 A Success!

Many thanks to The Columbus Dispatch and those attending for making BUG 2006 a great success. Beginning with the welcome reception on Friday, May 19 through the tour of the Dispatch's production facility on Monday, May 22, 2006, the conference was very informative and worthwhile.

Thanks to Vince Buse, Greg Andre and Janis Bobb for their attention to conference details, those who presented to the group, and all who attended.

For photographic evidence of the please visit www.burtmountain.com/bug2006.htm.

Keith Vick and the Star-Telegram (Fort Worth, TX) have agreed to host BUG 2007.

"The Apey"

BUG this year also saw the creation of "The Apey."  The April Gauldin Burt Users Group/BUG Service Award will be presented annually to the individual who makes a significant contribution to the Burt User community.  This year's award was presented to Sandra Whitmoyer of the Denver Newspaper Agency for her behind-the-scenes help with BUG 2006 finances, logistics and planning.

Congratulations Sandra!

GMA Delivers OCI-compliant Controls

GMA, Inc. has delivered their first-ever machine controls seamlessly integrated with BURT LineManager/OCI to The News & Observer in Raleigh, NC.  Deployed on their two state-of-the-art GMA SLS-3000 inserting lines, these controls provide true bi-directional integration with BURT and support non-proprietary, open integration.

Previously, customers desiring true OCI integration and the benefits of LineManager had to either pursue an alternative hardware solution or opt to install third-party machine controls.

We are very pleased to report that this integration meets even our exacting standards.  It's here and it works.

BURT Wins NEXPO Booth Award

We are honored to have received the Most Attractive and Creative Exhibit Award, 900 square feet or less, at NEXPO 2006 in Chicago, April 1 - 4.

For those of you who chose not to support it, we had a very productive show and also had lots of fun.

BURT Adds to Staff

We are very pleased to welcome Patrick O'Dell to the staff.  A veteran of over 30 years in packaging with both The Dallas Morning News and San Francisco Chronicle, Patrick was directly involved in the very successful deployment of The BURT System at the Chronicle.  The Chronicle's BURT deployment included integration with the machine controls from APSOLUT on new GOSS inserting equipment and Schur palletizers.

Extremely well versed in all aspects of PackagingManger and LineManagerMaintaining, Patrick will be helping the BURT Response Center with application support as well as assisting with on-site training.

We also welcome Carrie Bellio to the staff.  A 2006 graduate of Metro State College, Carrie brings with her a CMIS degree.  She'll use that and a lot more, as she assists in scheduling and completing application upgrades and helping trouble-shoot platform-related support events.
