China Adventure 2003

Jim, Connie and Allison left home on September 10, 2003 and traveled to Chicago, IL and on Beijing, China, before joining Emily Ann in Lanzhou on September 16, 2003.

From Lanzhou it was on to Guangzhou for the obligatory Consulate appointment and relaxing stay at the White Swan, before continuing on to Hong Kong, San Francisco and back home to Denver.

 

Allison enjoys her first first-class flight segment on the trip from Denver to Chicago Business Class service on United's Chicago to Beijing non-stop. Crossing the Arctic Ocean. UA Flight 252, a Boeing 777,  cools down on the tarmac in Beijing after the 12-hour flight.

Allison reverts to economy class for the flight from Beijing to Lanzhou. Monument to the "Flying Horse of Gansu" outside the Lanzhou airport.  The original was created during the Eastern Hah Dynasty, 25-220 A.D., and excavated in 1969. Allison meets Emily Ann, and is forever more a member of the very elite Big Sister club. Later that afternoon, mom introduces Emily Ann to a rounded oat cereal she brought along.
With most of the crying out of the way, the girls pose for a group photo. Jim, Allison and little Emily. Allison can shoulder quite a burden for her litter sister Emily. Round Trip Airfare:  $500
